Social Business Summit 2010

Austin - Mount Bonnell

On Thursday, I attended the inaugural Social Business Summit in Austin, hosted by the Dachis Group.  This one-day event blew my mind wide open.  There are major rumblings in the business world from what 'used to work' in industrial age corporations to the new reality of networked thought-based collaboration.  Expect to hear alot more from me about this - it is clear that the social business revolution is gaining powerful momentum.

Thank you to Jeff Dachis, Peter Kim and the Dachis group for being gracious hosts. I hope to return next year.

Social CRM: The New Rules of Relationship Management

Businesses are freaking out.  They know they need to get involved with social media, but they're having a hard time adapting to the  challenges that the social web presents.  Customers now have a voice - and it's loud.

The way we do business is evolving and companies need to rethink their core processes to remain successful.  This isn't a bad thing though... there are real opportunities in social business design.  Our friends at Altimeter just released this comprehensive look at how businesses can manage their customer relationships in the new reality of the social web.  I definitely suggest you spend some time with this report.

Convergence Culture

Henry Jenkins is the director of the Comparative Media Studies Program at MIT.  In this viral-info-snack he discusses the power of media in a 21st century trans-mediated world. A world where converging technologies and cultures give rise to a new media landscape.

About 30 seconds into it, Henry Jenkins says that we are in"an era when spectatorial culture is giving way to participatory culture"

People no longer just sit back and accept what the media tells them. They are the media.
The audience is the content - the entertainment is reality.
